“The most exhausting thing in life…….is being insincere” -Anne Morrow Lingbergh (1906-2001) PDF Print E-mail
I Have Been Thinking...

How true this statement is! The amount of spiritual, emotional, mental and physical energy required to misrepresent ourselves to others is enormous and a colossal waste of time. Our behavior usually at some point belies the effectiveness of our misrepresentation anyway. Over time others recognize a “phoney” position when presented with it and lose respect for the person and the position. How to cultivate sincerity is a bit of a challenge. To be sincere and polite at the same time is a skill set well learned in youth. However, a great many people were not fortunate to learn it. Yet, it is never too late. We can start now if we wish.

The first step to start the process is to know “who” we are. Then we can be sincere to the internal self, making manifestations of the external self less difficult to accomplish. Does that mean we share every sincere thought we have? No! Of course not. Timing and skill is everything when being sincere. They are key elements to successful, sincere communication. Like bitter medication mixed in with a spoonful of sugar, so is sincere speech more easily digested when mixed with kindness. Nontheless, if we cannot yet effectively communicate with sincerity then we may be best served to remain quiet until we can.
